One of the reasons successful sales trainers and leaders overcome so many difficult obstacles and sell more is because they tap into the power of feeling special. When I was nine years old, I had a life-changing conversation with my mom as we sat in our kitchen. My dad was a Lutheran pastor and mom was a school teacher. We lived in the church parsonage next to the church.
As a kid, I would often sit on the window ledge and watch the neighborhood kids play in the large grassy area between our house and the church. They would play kickball, football, baseball and all kinds of athletic games.
As I sat watching them through the window, I would often look down at my crippled and deformed legs, constrained by heavy knee-high metal braces. My feet were wrapped in big ugly black leather boots and I could hardly walk without the aid of crutches.
That particular day, I asked my mom a very important question. I said, "Do you ever think that I’m going to be like those kids out there?” Many struggling sales individuals, leaders and sales trainers have probably asked similar questions. My mom looked at me and said something I never forgot. She looked me squarely in the eye as only a school teacher can and she said, "Alan Altmann, you are somebody special." And the miracle of hope took residence in my mind as I believed her.
When a sales trainer looks at a trainee and says, “I believe you’re somebody special,” hope takes root. Sales trainers and strong leaders know the power of feeling special! It's like strapping on your Superman uniform and flying away to accomplish something important.
As a motivational speaker, I know that when you believe you are somebody special, life takes on a new and powerful meaning. The obstacles in your way are now things that must be conquered and moved out of the way. Sales trainers that encourage you to sell more are worth the space they occupy each day because they are skilled at inspiring their people by tapping into that same desire to overcome. If I was a preacher, I’d be pounding my hand on the pulpit right about now! Amen.
Make it a great selling day and remember…
"If you don't sell more, you’re out of business!"
